It was a normal, boring city. There was a normal, boring dentist, a 38-year-old man, whose job at a dental clinic didn’t give him enough money to pay the rent of his little apartment. He had to move back to his grandmother’s house, the house of his childhood and, a few months later, quit to his job because it was really far away from home. He opened his own dental office in his grandmother’s garage. Business was so-so. He could afford his basic financial necessities, at least.

Things started to get worse when weird noises began coming from under the house. The man told his clients to ignore the sounds, that he would solve the problem as soon as possible. But they didn’t listen; they just got scared and disgusted and left little by little.

He, desperate, tried to find the place the noises came from. He thought those noises could be from the house pipelines. He had called several plumbers to fix the problem, but none of them could find anything. He was mad and tired because the sounds were still there and he was running out of money. He spent days with his ears on the floor to analyze the sounds and try to find the exact place of them. He discovered the noises were constantly moving between under the house and under the backyard. The noises were getting stranger, like steps and stomps. Some of them were unknown, hard to identify.

One day, he decided to explore the backyard. He didn’t find anything in the house. He was weeding and weeding when he found a rusty metal plate with strange symbols in the ground. It didn’t have any handle to open it, so he went for a wrench, put it under the plate and pushed downwards as hard as he could. After several attempts, he was able to take the plate off its place. He saw a dark and square space, and it was too clean to be underground. The symbols on the plate were also seen on the walls of that space. Suddenly, he heard louder and louder stomps coming towards him. A humanoid creature came out from the hole. It was like 2 meters of height and had a reptilian appearance. It was staring at him and breathing heavily.

The man was frozen to death, but realized in the same moment he had to look for his grandmother and get out from the house. During running into the house, he shouted for help to his neighbors, so they maybe notice something wrong was going on with him and his grandmother and then ask for help, but he got no response. The creature grabbed his right foot with violence, knocked him out and took him into the hole.

When he woke up, he was tied to a strange metal plate and surrounded by several creatures alike the one that caught him. He tried to move and scream, but his body didn’t do anything. He was sort of paralyzed. He could see those creatures communicating to each other while thinking of his grandmother. He felt some steps and then he saw a group of people coming. Some of his neighbors and his grandmother were among them and suddenly turned into more of those creatures. He was about to have a heart attack.

One of the creatures put a mechanism on his head and calmed his body reactions down immediately. He suddenly understood the language of the creatures for no reason. They were talking about a failed simulation of Earth. They said they had previous failed simulations with other “abducted” humans that ended up discovering them and being killed because of the failure. They said this project was the longest one, it lasted 38 years, but it wasn’t enough anyway. The dentist’s life’s light was turned off in that moment.

This civilization would keep doing experiments with humans to find a way of being among them without being detected, adapting to their environment and technology and dominating their places to take advantage of them.
